International Peace Conference from 26-28 September B.E. 2560 (2017) held at the Headquarters of the United Nations of Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris, France

The conference is organized by The World Fellowship of Buddhists (The WFB) and Permanent Delegation of Thailand to UNESCO with the cooperation of Pure Land Learning College Association Inc. and the World Buddhist University.  Several distinguished guests and speakers including The WFB family from People’s Republic of China, Australia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, U.S.A. and Thailand had paid tribute to the Late King in this regard namely H.E. Irina Bokova (Director General of UNESCO), H.E. Michael Worbs (Chairperson of Executive Board of UNESCO), and H.E. Sihasak Phuangketkaeow (Thai Permanent Delegate to the UNESCO).

Main theme of the conference is “Creating Sustainable Society of Peace: A Legacy of King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand” in various perspectives were shared and presented.  All through his reign, His Majesty had sacrificed his own happiness and private life for the well-being of Thai people. He applied Buddha Teachings to his royal duties and initiated numbers of projects including Sufficiency Economy Philosophy in B.E. 2540 (1997) which its notion is based on the “Middle Path” of Buddhism that embraces a way of life based on patience, perseverance, diligence and wisdom to create balance of living.  This philosophy is applied not only in Thailand but it is also around the world.  His Majesty proclaimed that the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy is not only for Thai people but it was also for everyone in the world.  His Majesty had received numerous medals and awards from international organizations.  The most prestigious ones is the United Nations Human Development Lifetime Achievement Award given to leaders who have exemplified dedication to human development and environmental sustainability in B.E. 2549 (2006).

In addition, perspectives of sub theme of conference on “If we choose rivalry, conflict, and war, the human race will suffer from never-ending disasters.  If we abandon rivalry, conflict, and war, the human race will enjoy boundless good fortune and joy” was presented and shared by international ambassadors to UNESCO and inter-religious scholars.
