At this conference, there was an approval of establishing the WFB Humanitarian Relief Fund which consequently resulted from two natural disasters happened in the same month of May B.E. 2551 (2008) - Nargis Cyclone happened in Republic of the Union of Myanmar of which suffered more than 2 million people and the great earthquake followed by several aftershocks in People’s Republic of China.

The theme was to discuss and share experiences on Buddhists contribution to alleviate hardship human being had to encounter.  With the growth of materialism and clashes of ideologies and interests, we, Buddhists know that Buddhism can resolve all problems and troubles so that peace and harmony may replace conflict and discord throughout the world.

There was good news about the WFB role at the international level that is the WFB had achieved formal consultative relations to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) which is an official partnership with the UN.
