CONSTITUTION

We, THE DELEGATES representing many countries and numerous organizations from all parts of the world, determined to establish in unity and strengthen THE WORLD FELLOWSHIP OF BUDDHISTS, to make our utmost endeavour to study, observe and practise the teachings of the Buddha that we may be the radiant examples of the living faith, and to strive with all might and main to make the sublime doctrine of the Buddha so that its benign teaching of compassion, tolerance, service and sacrifice may pervade the entire world, inspiring and influencing the peoples of the earth and their Governments to lead the Buddhist way of life, which is for all ages and times, so that there be peace, harmony and happiness for all beings,
do hereby adopt, enact and give to ourselves this Constitution.
The present Constitution adopted at the 18th General Conference held in B.E. 2535 (1992) in Chinese Taipei replaces the original Constitution which was adopted at the Inaugural Session of the World Fellowship of Buddhists held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 2493 (1950) under the chairmanship of the Founder President Dr. Gunapala Piyasena Malalasekera.
