Plea for Humanitarian Assistance for Buddhist Temples Affected by Hawaii Wildfires

In early August B.E. 2566 (2023), the state of Hawaii, U.S.A. experienced devastating wildfires exacerbated by the strong winds of Hurricane Dora.  This catastrophic event resulted in extensive destruction, claiming the lives of at least 101 people.  Moreover, approximately 1,300 people remain missing, with the death toll continuing to rise.  The prolonged dry spell and severe drought this year have been exacerbated by the effects of climate change, further intensifying the crisis.

The wildfires completely razed three significant Buddhist temples: Lahaina Jodoin, Lahaina Hokoji Shingon Mission, and Lahaina Hongwanji.  In light of this profound loss, The WFB is earnestly appealing to all Regional Centres to generously provide humanitarian assistance during this time of dire need.  For those who wish to contribute via bank transfer, please kindly contribute to the WFB Humanitarian Service Fund with detail below herewith.
