His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk, King of Bhutan, conferred the Medal of Heart Son of Bhutan upon His Eminence Most Venerable Sangay Dorji

On 17 December B.E. 2566 (2023), during the 116th National Day celebrations, His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk, the King of Bhutan, bestowed the prestigious Medal of Heart Son of Bhutan upon His Eminence Most Ven. Sangay Dorji.  This esteemed recognition was a testament to his outstanding contributions to the propagation of Buddhism in Bhutan and beyond.
H.E. Most Ven. Sangay Dorji entered the monastic community at the age of 11.  He completed the nine-year education from Tango University, the highest Buddhist learning center in Bhutan.  Moreover, he completed a three-year retreat from Chari Meditation Centre, the first monastic school in the country.  Throughout his spiritual journey, he received teachings from various esteemed Buddhist masters, including both the present Je Khenpo (Supreme Patriarch), and the late Je Khenpo Gayduen Rinchen. 
Over the years, H.E. Most Ven. Sangay Dorji held several key positions within the monastic administration of Bhutan.  Notably, at the age of 56, he assumed the role of Chairman of the Monastic Council for Administration & Development Affairs of the Central Monastic Body of Bhutan.  His contributions as a distinguished monk and scholar played a pivotal role in the administration, development, and spiritual education within and beyond the Central Monastic Body.
Recently at the 100th EXCO Meeting of The WFB, H.E. Most Ven. Sangay Dorji was an honored guest speaker at The WFB Academic Forum themed “Understanding Buddhism in Different Countries: Unity in Diversity”, held from 22-23 November B.E. 2566 (2023).  His presentation provided valuable insights into Buddhism in Bhutan, showcasing his deep understanding and knowledge on Buddhism.
This recognition and acknowledgment underscore H.E. Most Ven. Sangay Dorji’s unwavering commitment to the advancement and dissemination of Buddhist teachings, making him a respected figure in both national and international Buddhist communities.
