Visitor from Shingon School of Buddhism in Japan

Rev. Shumyo Kimura, President of the Buddhist Youth Association of the Busan School of Shingon Buddhism, visited The WFB Headquarters on 21 December B.E 2566 (2023).  He was welcomed by Mr. Montian Thananart, Secretary-General of The WFB, and Mr. Idanont Thaiarry, Secretary General of WFBY.  In B.E. 2560 (2017), this association brought a Buddha image as offerings to Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratcjawaramahawihan (Temple of Dawn) in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of their association for the Japan-Thailand Friendship Project.

Shingon is a branch of Vajarayana Buddhism that has a considerable following in Japan since its introduction from China in the 9th century.  The sect believes that to reach the eternal wisdom of the Buddha may be developed and realized through special ritual means employing body, speech, and mental concentration.  This denomination founded by Reverend Kukai (Kobo Daishi) and built its first monastery on Mount Koya south of Kyoto, which became the headquarters of Shingon school.
