The 101st EXCO & Office Bearers Meeting

9th - 11th May B.E. 2567 (2024)
From 9th to 11th May B.E. 2567 (2024), An Sim Jeong Sa, a regional centre of The WFB in the Republic of Korea, hosted the 101st EXCO & Office Bearers Meeting.  The event took place at the host’s temple in Nonsan City, Chungcheong Province.  Before the meeting on 9th May, a Ceremony of the Holy Relics Enshrinement, performed in the Taego Order of Korean Buddhism tradition, was conducted.  Most Ven. Soek Boeb Ahn, President of An Sim Jeong Sa Temple, respectfully engaged 64 relics from Thailand for enshrinement in the temple’s pagoda.
During the meeting, five applications for new regional centres were approved to be forwarded to the upcoming general conference of The WFB. This expansion increases The WFB’S reach to 223 regional centres in 51 countries worldwide.
Following the meeting, Most Ven. Somdet Phra Mahathirachan, a Member of Thai Supreme Sangha Council and Supreme Advisor of The WFB, along with Mr. Phallop Thaiarry, President of The WFB, and Mr. Montian Thananart, Secretary-General, paid a courtesy visit to Most Ven. Jinwoo, President of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, at the Jogye Order’s Headquarters in Seoul.  Their discussions focused on cooperation and collaboration to strengthen Buddhism and promote peaceful coexistence.
Our sincere gratitude to Mr. Yang Jang Woon, Vice-President of The WFB, for facilitating our attendance at the Lighting Lantern Festival organized by the Jogye Order in celebration of Vesak Day.  Despite the hard rain and cold weather, the event showcased the performers’ resilience and dedication.
Additionally, the host arranged cultural study trips to several significant sites, including Yeongsanje, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity; Jeonju Hanok Village, the largest Hanok Village located in the center of a city; Seonamsa, a Taego Order temple listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage; and Tapsa (the Pagoda Temple), noted for its unique construction using rocks piled without modern machinery.  These visits left lasting impressions on the attendees.
The WFB participants also appreciated the hospitality extended by the WFB Korea Regional Centre, and the WFB Korea Fellowship, which hosted lunches and dinners.
Special thanks were given to Most Ven. Soek Boeb Ahn, and the entire membership of An Sim Joeng sa for their superb hospitality.  Moreover, we extend our gratitude to all of WFB regional centres in South Korea, Rev. Sunmi Choi and Rev. Kang Se Jin who put in effort to facilitate convenience for all participants throughout our time in the Republic of Korea.
