7th General Conference

Sarnath, Varanasi in India was chosen as the venue of the conference because it is where Śākyamuni delivered his first sermon which came to be known as the turning of the Wheel of the Law, the Dharmacakra.  It was also as tribute to the Centenary of the birth of the late Venerable Anāgārika Dharmapāla who was the pioneer of the Buddhist revival in India and the first Buddhist missionary to visit Europe and America that spread Buddhism beyond Asia. 

Previously due to sudden detention of the President U Chan Htoon, he asked His Serene Highness Princess Poon Pismai Diskul, Vice President to assume the burden of the President.  Moreover, the transfer of the WFB Headquarters and the Secretariat Office from Rangoon to Bangkok was promptly ratified.  Formal opening of the WFB Headquarters in Bangkok took place on 23 December B.E. 2506 (1963).

Noteworthiness a bimonthly journal entitled W.F.B. News Bulletin (later become the W.F.B. Review) was issued.  Moreover, a new tradition of having a public forum with lecturers on various aspects of Buddhism was implemented as part of the conference since then so as to enhance deeper knowledge of Buddhism and create international understanding.
