การเฉลิมฉลองรางวัล UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education ประจำปี พ.ศ.2564

H.E. Phan Wannamethee, President of The WFB, assigned Mrs. Kanchana Soonsawad (EXCO Member) and Mrs. Sawanee Chuensumran (Deputy Secretary-General) attended UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education via webinar.  It was a part of the celebration of 2021 International Day of the Girl held at headquarter of UNESCO on 15 October B.E. 2564 (2021).



UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education was established by UNESCO’s Executive Board in B.E. 2558 (2015).  Professor Peng Liyuan, the first lady of the People’s Republic of China and Special Envoy for the Advancement of Girls’ and Women’s Education, together with Mrs. Audrey Azoulay, Director General of UNESCO had participated at the ceremony.   



Although notable progress has been made during the past 20 years, around 129 million girls did not receive any education.  Meanwhile, two-thirds of children who should study in primary school did not have a chance for education at all (source: UNESCO Institute of Statistics).  Therefore, UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education honors outstanding and innovative contributions made by individuals, institutions and organizations to advance girls’ and women’s education.  It is the first UNESCO Prize of this nature and to honor the successful projects that improve and promote educational of girls and women.  This project is funded by the government of the People’s Republic of China with the support of UNESCO.  The prize is conferred annually to two laureates which consists of an award of USD 50,000.-  The prize was awarded for the first time in B.E. 2559 (2016) so as to achieve the Sustainable Development Growth of education (SDG4) and gender equality (SDG5) in B.E. 2573 (2030).   



Professor Peng Liyuan said that the outbreak of COVID-19 has sent negative effect to girls and women which needs strategy directly to the target with efficiency so that they could receive equal chance of qualified education.  She further suggested to apply Digital Technology appropriately in sharing the information of education with effectiveness because education will enhance girls and women to acquire knowledge and skill that can equip them with competence and confidence of the better living.  

Moreover, H.E. Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO also commented that no countries in the world can solely achieve in any great challenges in the world without depending on science, education and culture.



For the second phase of this program is the next 5 years which will be funded by the government of the People’s Republic of China and the supported by UNESCO.
